Protective layer needed

I use Rapid Epoxy for dopping. With heat-resistant stones I can generally do a successful transfer by gripping the stone in insulated pliers and heating the dop that I wish to detach in a spirit flame.
I have a big problem with heat-sensitive stones. The final stage of loosening the araldite bond is easy: I just leave stone and dop overnight in methyl chloride paint stripper (Nitro Mors). The difficulty is during transfer when you have two dops attached and you want to loosen only one of the araldite bonds. Methyl chloride is volatile and will soften a bond even if you are careful not to immerse it.
Doug Morgan suggests Vaseline as a protective agent over the bond you wish to preserve. Would wax be good? I don't have any dopping wax, so I don't know whether it would dissolve in paint stripper. I can, of course, experiment, but maybe someone has the answer?
